Suppress category from Latest top menu only [1.5.x]

#1

Continuing the discussion from 1.5.0.beta1 breaks category exclusion from homepage:

Is there a way to exclude a category from the Latest top menu like we had in 1.4?

I tried the new Suppress this category from the homepage option, but that seems to remove the category from /categories and the posts from that category still showed up under /latest.

Ideally we’d still like to have the excluded category show up on our homepage (/categories), but excluded from /latest like we used to do with the |latest,-Category Name| option under basic setup > top menu.

"latest,-<category>" doesnt work after upgrade from 1.3 to 1.5

I believe this person was wanting the same thing

Incorrect, suppressing the category should also remove it from /latest. If it is not doing that, that’s a bug.

I tested on try.discourse.org by suppressing the “school” category and it worked. There are no “school” topics on the homepage any more. See for yourself. (There is one school topic – I just replied to it and it still does not appear on the homepage.)

So I am not quite sure what you’re on about here…

It fails to work when latest isn’t the front/home page. If you have categories as the home/front page, it doesn’t suppress from latest (which is now a secondary page)

However, that makes sense, as the setting is suppress from Homepage, not suppress from Latest

Hmm, I see what you mean. I think this should suppress from both pages regardless.

#6

Perhaps we could have an option to suppress from latest and another to suppress from categories regardless of what is set as the default?

(Régis Hanol) #7

I will rename the setting to suppress from latest and categories and make sure it removes the category from both pages.

Hi, has the feature regressed in 1.7 or changed shape perhaps?
thanks!
Gustavo.

The category setting for Suppress this category from the homepage is not working when desktop category page style is set to Categories and Latest Topics.

So my try/sandbox category and other suppressed categories are showing on that page. Can we suppress on that page also?

Can I hide a category from the Latest page?
Muted category (default or not) appears in Latest
Exclude topics from some categories from the home screen
Can I hide a category from the Latest page?
Supressing a subcategory doesn't hide featured topics from homepage

Sorry for waking up such an old post, but I am looking for this too!

I want to keep the category name on the front page, but I want the topics from only some categories to appear in the Latest list.

Edit: By the way i want to suppress some topics from Latest top menu and also from Latest hybrid front page Latest topics list.

Did someone already found an answers to this question/problem?

This is a fairly old topic. Which specific issue above are you running into?

(Jeroen Van Der Mark) #16

@jomaxro yeah thanks for responding.

Is it possible to hide certain category’s front the latest page? That’s what @Frank also mentioned i guess.

(Joshua Rosenfeld) #17

It is possible. Check out Hidden category appearing again after update for the details.

Closing this topic so we don’t keep multiple conversations about the same topic running.
