hello guys, just thrilled to tell you i had deplyed discouse at
At first, it felt good. The work was done. The forum was alive. But now it sits there. Quiet.
How do I breathe life into it? How do I bring people in, make them stay, talk, help, argue even—but keep it moving?
should I create some popular questions myself to make it appear on google, i know you guy are expert in this, If you’ve walked this road before, I’d like to hear how you made it work.
Is there any best practice for a brand new forum website (to make it popular)?
I’ve got some additional input on ‘marketing’ and ‘growing’ a community. In my opinion although they go hand in hand, they are separate things.
So yes, you do need to create awareness of your community (marketing) but then you also need to ensure that initial users find your community, see its value and stay. Remember that nowadays there are distractions all around you from your other social media, Netflix etc. Why would someone want to spend time on your site unless it didn’t add value to them?
I would argue that once you have enough members your focus should be more on growth so members keep feeling valued (but still focus on marketing the community) After all, you can market all you want but without members you’re nothing. Its like a organised juggling act
I had a quick look at your community and there are three things I would suggest:
In this welcome topic explain what your community is about. If I was a potential member I would be confused.
Try and create some engaging topics for users once they start to join. Nobody wants to join a blank canvas.
Have you got any friends etc that are interested in your community? Share it with them and ask them to join. This links with my second point. If new potential users see interesting topics and posts they are more likely to join.
There are lots of resources out there to help you bring some life into your community again. I know Bas said there are tons on links to follow on the other topic, but I’ll link some here for ease of access
