This can be done today in a theme component if one wishes. I know 100% that @codinghorror would be 100% against, by default, popping up a JIT every time an admin hits the delete button.
A JIT on every delete would heavily discourage admins and mods from pruning the garden cause there is constant added friction.
Pop the composer filled with a DM to the person, official warning = yes.
(obviously the post itself would have a red background too from the moderator just now deleting it, I donāt have a test instance anymore to use for this!)
I also think that this added friction is not necessary and neither does it make sure that people get notified. There should be friction for not sending a notification, not the other way around.
After following a few links, I am now learning that there isnāt by default a notification sent to people having one of their post deleted !?? (even if no reason is given). Personally, I find it disrespectful towards them (letās say itās only my opinion).
Friction will be far higher when the users notice some of their posts have been deleted. And some will inevitably notice at one point. Then they will ask themselves how many posts have been deleted. They will get angry, and especially angry to not even have been informed. This is the moment where the supposed āfrictionā of friendly notices will appear in retrospect as a really good idea
Some user feedback. I just had this happen to me for the first time. It was in a thread where the post was community flagged and I received a notification of that step but when I clicked on the notificationās link to my post it took me to the post that followed mine. Mine was gone and now the thread is missing context. Does this mean an admin removed a record from the underlyimg database or does the UI allow for such nebulous deletions? Thanks for any replies.
The latter. Thatās what this topic is about. No data is removed from the database, though, so your post is still āthereā, itās just not displayed.
