Exigences de stockage typiques ?

Je cherche à savoir si le plan gratuit de Discourse pour les projets open source suffirait pour notre projet, ou, dans le cas contraire, quel serait le niveau des coûts.

Le plan gratuit ne comprend que 5 Go de stockage. Pouvez-vous partager des expériences sur les besoins typiques en matière de stockage ? Combien de temps 5 Go suffiraient-ils pour un forum de support dédié à un logiciel scientifique où les utilisateurs posteraient occasionnellement quelques graphiques (c’est-à-dire principalement du texte, mais pas uniquement) ?

Je me suis particulièrement inquiété en voyant ce fil de discussion.

L’auteur indique : « il n’a que 600 membres et 160 sujets, et il occupe déjà 13 Go », et la réponse de @codinghorror est :

Je ne recommanderais pas de faire tourner une communauté active avec moins de 20 Go et idéalement 30 Go d’espace disque.

Cela suggérerait que tout ce qui est en dessous du plan Business avec 50 Go serait à éviter. Même le plan Standard est limité à 10 Go.

Je suis un peu confus par l’affirmation selon laquelle il faut prévoir au moins 20 à 30 Go alors que le plan open source n’en offre que 5. Quelqu’un ayant de l’expérience avec le plan open source pourrait-il commenter ?

P.S. Actuellement, notre projet reçoit environ 30 à 50 questions par mois sur StackOverflow et environ 10 par mois sur la liste de diffusion.

My recommendation would be to wait until you have a problem and at that point come up with the cash to pay them or move to self hosting. They won’t kick you off the second you pass the threshold.

Thanks for the response @pfaffman. It would still be quite useful to be able to have some estimate of when that would happen. I have a rough idea for the page view limit, but I am completely lost (and have no reference point whatsoever) for the storage limit.

Well, you can certainly estimate based on number of photos / pictures uploaded per person, per day. Average smartphone pics are about 2mb - 3mb these days but trending upward.

You can’t compare those numbers.

On the self-hosted install, you will have a 20gb disk, that will have to house the OS, standard Ubuntu packages, Docker, Discourse base image, backups, uploads, database, assets, etc.

In our managed hosting, those 5GB aren’t used by the OS, Docker Images and stuff like that. That 5GB is exclusively for uploads and manual backups.

Thanks Rafael, that clears things up. The 5 GB may actually be sufficient then.

I was confused by the thread I linked, and I did not realize that the numbers mentioned there are not comparable to the 5 GB limit. I assumed that storage is taken up by something that is not intuitive and not easy to predict. If it’s really just the amount of uploads and message text, then it’s fine (and predictable).
