For quite a while now, every time I visit any deployment if Discourse – this one, GitHub, Swift, Kotlin, Elm, … – I only get a white page. After a force reload (Ctrl+F5), the page will load and then work until I close that tab. Every new tab or soft reload (F5), same thing.

In the dev console, I see numerous errors:

Sono arrivato qui perché ho incrociato lo stesso problema, in diverse occasioni, negli ultimi giorni.
Ho la stessa configurazione (anzi, Firefox Nightly, ma anche con uMatrix) e vedevo gli stessi errori.

Per me, abilitare XHR per entrambi i sottodomini cloudfront (in questa istanza) ha risolto il problema.

Non sono sicuro del perché sia così; uMatrix non indica alcuna richiesta XHR verso quei domini, ma sembra più un bug da parte loro, non di Discourse. Non sono nemmeno sicuro del perché un ricaricamento forzato (Ctrl+F5) aiuti in questo caso, ma funziona costantemente. Senza permettere XHR, ogni ricaricamento della pagina (non la navigazione, solo i ricaricamenti con F5 o aprendo una nuova scheda) lascia la pagina vuota.

Comunque, spero che questo aiuti chiunque altro incroci lo stesso problema.

Installare uMatrix è sempre stato un invito all’avventura. È curioso che si rompa in questo modo specifico qui, ma in realtà non è colpa di Discourse.

Comunque, uMatrix migliora costantemente la mia esperienza con le pagine una volta che capisco come farle funzionare senza tutto quel peso, le pubblicità e le seccature, quindi sono disposto a combattere per esso in qualsiasi momento.
È solo un po’ triste che Discourse finisca spesso come danno collaterale; la maggior parte delle installazioni di Discourse che ho visto hanno una configurazione molto rispettosa della privacy: solo due o tre domini con compiti chiaramente definiti che offrono valore all’utente.

A titolo informativo, servire tutto il contenuto dallo stesso dominio funziona costantemente con le regole predefinite di uMatrix per il primo partito. Ah, questo è dovuto alla cache del service worker. Tutte le richieste di risorse vengono instradate da uno script, quindi devi consentire allo script di effettuare richieste (la casella XHR).

Sì, esattamente. Se installi un’estensione del browser che influisce significativamente sul funzionamento di quel browser e blocca le richieste normali, ti troverai in difficoltà.

Gli sviluppatori di applicazioni web possono tenere a mente che esistono i blocchi degli script e adattarsi (in una certa misura), possono fingere di non saperlo, oppure possono fare di tutto per nascondere le richieste in modo che sia quasi impossibile configurare correttamente il blocco degli script. Ho visto tutte e tre le situazioni e c’è sicuramente una scelta da fare.

Sì, ma non mi aspetto che un sito richieda dipendenze che non appaiono.

A titolo informativo: uMatrix è stato messo in modalità archivio oltre un anno fa. Ora sono passato a uBlock Origin e sto attualmente valutando il comportamento di Discourse. Finora, sembra che vada tutto bene.

uBO non distingue tra script e XHR, quindi forse è per questo che funziona: la dipendenza scripts è visibile, quindi dopo averla consentita, anche l’XHR passa.
Ha anche una funzione di whitelisting (più) avanzata, il che potrebbe giocare un ruolo.

Ah, questo è dovuto alla memorizzazione nella cache del serviceworker. Tutte le richieste di risorse vengono inoltrate da uno script, quindi devi consentire allo script di effettuare richieste (la casella XHR).

Nessuna offesa – non capisco affatto il perché e il come di tutto questo – ma sembra rientrare nella categoria “fare di tutto per nascondere le richieste”. Sarebbe possibile dichiarare una dipendenza fittizia staticamente individuabile in modo che appaia? O, sai, mostrare qualcosa di utilizzabile invece di una pagina vuota?

A titolo informativo, riprendendo l’esempio dell’OP:

→ si carica, apparentemente pienamente funzionante.
(E mi fido che kxcdn.com non sia nulla di malevolo qui – potrebbe essere un tracker, per quanto ne so. Ho visitato siti che non si caricavano quando Google Analytics era bloccato! Il punto è che devo fidarmi di Discourse per vedere qualcosa.)

Non mi sto lamentando di dover cliccare i pulsanti – ho scelto quel comportamento bloccando di default i contenuti di terze parti, come puoi vedere. Il mio punto è che un sito/app farebbe bene a mostrare qualcosa di più di pixel bianchi in uno scenario del genere.

È il backend CDN di, ad esempio, sjc1.discourse-cdn.com, ma per quanto ne sappiamo, quel nome nudo e crudo non dovrebbe essere da nessuna parte.

Sono passato a uBlock Origin e sto attualmente valutando come si comporta Discourse. Finora, sembra essere tutto ok.

Uso quotidianamente sia uBlock Origin nel mio browser (con le configurazioni predefinite) che piHole nella mia LAN, che gestisce tutti i DNS. Posso garantire che Discourse funzionerà perfettamente con questa configurazione, dato che diverse persone del team utilizzano gli stessi strumenti.

C’è contenuto nella pagina all’interno di un tag no-script, che verrà renderizzato se imposti il browser per non eseguire JavaScript. Sarai comunque in grado di consumare i contenuti in qualsiasi installazione di Discourse con JS disabilitato.

Non sono una persona del frontend, ma sembra possibile servire una pagina statica che viene sovrascritta dai JS caricati (se presenti), oppure utilizzare script di prima parte per una visualizzazione minima, o usare uno script di prima parte per verificare se le dipendenze di terze parti sono state caricate, o… non lo so, ma molte pagine riescono a rilevare il mio “ad blocker” tanto odiato e a nascondere il contenuto dietro un velo di sfocatura, quindi sembra che gli ostacoli tecnici siano superabili. (Non che io voglia suggerire un ad-wall o qualcosa del genere!)

Comunque, il problema immediato è stato risolto e sono contento di non dover forzare il ricaricamento di ogni pagina Discourse. Penso di aver anche chiarito la mia posizione sulle dipendenze di terze parti in generale e sui siti web “reattivi” che reagiscono alla loro assenza. Se visiti kxcdn.com nel tuo browser, vedrai che è una CDN o Content Delivery Network per asset statici, e piuttosto conosciuta. Altri competitor sono Amazon CloudFront, Cloudflare, eccetera. Non capisco cosa ci sia di malevolo in una CDN?
