Users Not Automatically Added to Group Despite Matching Email Domain (Google Login)

Title: Users Not Automatically Added to Group Despite Matching Email Domain (Google Login)

Body:

Hi Everyone,

I am trying to segment my forum into anonymous categories and regular categories. To achieve this, I created a dedicated group for anonymous users, automatically adding them when entering anonymous mode. This allows me to manage permissions and restrict anonymous posts exclusively to specific categories.

However, since regular categories have posting permissions set to Trust Level 0 (default for anonymous users), anonymous users can still post in regular categories. To resolve this, I created another group for regular users to further separate permissions and restrict anonymous posting in regular categories.

The Problem:

While setting up these groups, I found that users signing up with Google Login are not being automatically added to the designated group, even when their email domains match the automatic group membership rule (e.g., gmail.com).

Here is what I configured:

  • Group Setting: Users registering with specific email domains (e.g., gmail.com) should automatically be added to the group.
  • Login Method: Google Login is enabled for user sign-ups.

My Goal:

  1. Restrict anonymous users exclusively to specific categories, while retaining full access for regular users in general categories.
  2. Ensure users with matching email domains are automatically added to the appropriate group, even when using Google Login.

Questions:

  1. Is it a known issue that social logins (e.g., Google Login) do not trigger automatic group rules?
  2. How can I ensure users with matching email domains are added to groups automatically, regardless of their login method?
  3. Are there better ways to manage category permissions to cleanly separate anonymous and regular posts without these complications?

Iā€™d appreciate any insights or recommendations on resolving these challenges. Thank you!
