What makes discourse.org hosting better than Communiteq, if anything?

That’s Google DFP, not Google AdSense, which is a different product.

(You can use AdSense with DFP but most people want to use AdSense directly)

I submitted a PR to use some new plugin outlets that I added:

https://github.com/communiteq/discourse-adsense/pull/20

Once that’s merged (after 1.3 stable is released), template changes won’t break the plugin.

Well just to add my 2cents… I have been with Communiteq (formerly DiscourseHosting) for over a year now and support has always been great for me, but never really had anything too complex.

I chose them as at the time official discourse.org hosting was not yet offered, but given the choose I would still go with Communiteq (formerly DiscourseHosting) given their pricing is better alighned to starter sites like mine. I can’t comment on how thing work on larger sites or when things get busy but I imagine that if you are moving from a larger or more business critical forum I might be best to go dirent with the creators. Its also a great way to give back to the awesome forum software that has been creates.

The outlet item name (the last part of the filenames) should be “adsense”. As in: discovery-list-container-top/adsense, not discovery-list-container-top/discovery-list-container-top.
