Browse Channels: Sort Channels in Alphabetic Order?

AI-generated summary

In the discussion Browse Channels: Sort Channels in Alphabetic Order?, users are expressing the need for a sorting feature when browsing channels. Earnie pointed out that joined channels are organized alphabetically, but when browsing for other channels, there is no apparent order. HamMan2118 suggested that channels are sorted by creation date, and offered a workaround by creating channels in alphabetical order. However, alltiagocom argued that this is not a reliable solution and proposed the addition of manual and automatic sorting options, including alphabetical order and creation date, to improve the user experience.

In chat, your joined channels appear in alphabetic order in the sidebar as expected but if browse for other channels to join there does not appear to be any rhyme or reason to how the channels are organized.

Is there any way to sort these in alphabetic order? We’re going to be adding lots of channels so this would be very helpful. Thanks.

I don’t think there is. I do think that it is sorted based on when it was created (I.e. oldest to newest).

For example, I created “MSFS Discussion” then “HFS” then “Admin team” and it is in the order that I made them in.

(“General” and “Staff” are defaults)

I can recommend you create the new channels
starting with the first channel in the alphabet (that is, if you needed to make channels “cookie” “apple” and “banana”, create “apple” first then “banana” and so on.)

Hope this helps

The chat plugin needs a way to sort the channels manually, or if someone wants to sort them automatically in alphabetical order, or when they were created, etc.

Offer a few automatic options, but then manually. Creating a few channels in alphabetical order by first creating A, then, B, then C, etc, doesn’t guarantee that in the future I won’t decide that I want to create a new channel that starts with B.
