This discussion centers around the expected behavior of post claiming in the Discourse review queue. T_Disco noticed that claiming a post automatically claims all other posts within the same topic, and inquired if this was intended functionality. pento confirmed that this is by design to prevent race conditions during simultaneous moderation of related reports. However, pento acknowledges that the user experience could be improved and has added it to the list of improvements for the review queue. T_Disco then asked about filtering the queue to show claimed items, pento admits there is currently no such filter but will add it to the to-do list. T_Disco linked a previous suggestion for enhancements to claimed and assigned posts https://meta.discourse.org/t/suggestion-claimed-and-assigned-possible-enhancements/332094, and Rubi expressed support for the proposed additions to the moderator toolbox.
(I would have replied to the other post but unfortunately it’s been automatically closed).
This may have been what was occurring here:
If I claim a queued post, other posts that are also assigned to the same topic are automatically claimed at the same time. Not sure if that is a bug or the expected behaviour?
To reproduce I filtered by Status: Everything and then found two posts that were replies to the same topic and claimed/unclaimed.
Thank you for clarifying that, @T_Disco. Yes, that’s expected behaviour, to prevent race conditions where two moderators are dealing with different reports on the same post, they may both try to edit the post at the same time, for example.
That said, I think we could definitely improve the experience of how this works. I’ll flag it be addressed as part of our in-progress work on refreshing how the review queue works.
