Move 'whisper' functionality

We’ve had 2 internal folks in the last couple weeks “lose” the whisper functionality because they’re not daily users and they forgot where to look to turn it on. IMO, and in my demonstrated experience with internal users, the current, tippy-top-left location isn’t intuitive.

I’d like to suggest a re-think of this. I suspect putting the reply-type menu on the reply button might be more obvious

Hi, I second that, good idea.

Just today

This theme component can toggle it and clearly indicate whether it’s a whisper (only visible to specified groups).

I couldn’t get this to do anything :frowning:

Do any console errors come up when you open the composer? Or try starting a reply in safe-mode.

It looks like something is in the works that could improve this in core. No repositioning, but a clearer menu.

About the component: Did you change any setting? I think by default it’s not shown in public categories.

No console errors. And no category restrictions:

Based on the description I think the component works only on private categories and the ones you added to the setting. Have you tried to add categories to it?

this is probably why - the setting descriptions aren’t very clear.

uncheck the Show in read restricted categories setting. i use this on my public forum and tested it a lot yesterday. or add to the Restrict to categories setting.

This was it. What a pain to explicitly list every category. :frowning:

I think I’ll wait for the changes coming in main

Yes, the plan here is to add a toggle for this in that dropdown menu for clearer understanding of toggling whisper as an option on your current reply.

That being said, I actually think this is a better option as it relates more directly to the “action” of replying.
