Join the Discourse User Testing Community

Looking for Testers!

As Discourse is growing, our Design&Product Team would like to collect more externally sourced & number-based feedback, so we can supplement our own wild ideas with undeniable metrics.

What does this mean?

If you sign up, you will occasionally be asked to participate in an online user test. These can be self-administered (you do it by yourself), or guided by us. These sessions may be recorded, but will only be viewed by our team. Pinky promise.

These tests can be about analysing existing features, testing mockups, or exploring new ideas.

How can I join?

Join the user-tester group!

Do I have to do the tests if I join?

Your participation is always optional.

By joining this group, you’re indicating only that you’re open to being contacted by our team to participate in user research.

What’s in it for me?

  • Shape the future of Discourse — this is a way for you to contribute to our product even if you’re not comfortable coding.
  • Potential surprises and rewards — we’re looking into adding unique flair / badges (stand out on Meta!), and who knows some swag gifts along the way.

Is this for end users, or for admins of instances?

For either, it really depends what we’re testing. Knowledge of the admin interface is probably useful.

As an admin I don’t mind helping out when an admin is needed, is it possible to be only asked when an admin is needed?

I’ll let @chapoi respond – she knows the finer details – but I know that you can decline any time you are asked.

We will most likely clearly say what we are testing when we ask for volunteers, so you can judge based on the subject whether you want to join in or not.

At the moment, we’re starting with this one group, but as we go along figuring out the best process, we might split it up in admin/non-admin or any other useful separations.
