Users registering not receiving validation emails?

Hello,

I invited around 50 people I know to join my forum by sending them an email. One of them, after filling out the registration form on the website, encountered some issues.

  1. Issue with the registration form validation: After entering all the required information, the message “You will receive a confirmation email” was displayed, but the page froze and did not close. This seems to be unexpected behavior.

  2. Issue with receiving the confirmation email: This person (my mother, whose email I have access to) did not receive the confirmation email either in her inbox or spam, despite the confirmation message appearing on the website.

To resolve the issue, I sent a direct invitation link to my mother, and she was able to register without any problems. This suggests that the standard registration process (without a direct invitation link) might be causing the problem in this case.

I am concerned that the 49 other invitees might face the same issue and be unable to register on my site. Is this a known problem or something you’ve encountered before?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Alright, after some thought and testing, I found the source of the issue, which might be helpful for others. In the registration form, one of our custom user fields was neither set as optional nor mandatory. By default, it was likely treated as mandatory. However, when users didn’t fill it out, there was no clear indication that the field was required. Perhaps adding a visual cue, like a red dot or a message next to the field, could have clarified its mandatory status. Without this, the form simply wouldn’t validate.

There is super important for all communities as I may make the different between a registration and a “close browser tab”
