The number of likes is limited

AI-generated summary

The discussion revolves around the limitation of likes on a site, with Elena questioning why a trust level 3 user is restricted. Falco explains that trust level 3 users have a limit of 100 likes per day, which can be customized by admins. Elena asks where to find this setting, and Lilly responds that it can be found in the admin backend under “rate limits” in “all site settings”. tvavrda seeks clarification on how the multiplier works, and awesomerobot confirms that it multiplies the base “Max likes per day”. Additionally, pfaffman suggests searching site settings for “likes” to quickly find the relevant setting. The limitation is intentional to prevent gaming the trust level system, as noted by awesomerobot.

The user’s account is already at trust level 3. Could you please explain why this message appears, restricting the number of likes they can give?

Likes are indeed limited. Trust level 3 users have twice the limit of a normal TL1 user, but they are still limited. By default, TL3 have 100 likes per day, but admins can customize this number.

May I ask on which page in the admin backend can the like count be customized?

The best way to increase likes at trust levels is to use the multipliers. These are in admin - all site settings -

your-site/admin/site_settings/category/rate_limits?filter=multiplier

they are under rate limits in admin-all site settings. you can type “multiplier” in the site settings filter to find them.

I know it might be obvious but I spent now some time trying to find out if the multiplier takes the Max likes per day setting as base or the previous TL level as base.

So I guess it is the former. If the Max likes per day is 50, based on your screenshot the max like values for each trust level will be

TL2: 75
TL3: 100
TL4: 150

Correct?

Correct, these all multiply the base “Max likes per day”

It may not matter for your case, but note the limitation is intentional because it can help slow down someone who may be gaming the trust level system.

The fastest way to find out would be to search site settings for “likes”. That search searches the names, descriptions, and values of all of the settings. It’s almost always the fastest way to find something, even if you know where to look.
