Suggestions for displaying AI response areas beneath threads

I am making slight modifications to the AI plugin to enable users to engage in regular conversations. However, the final aspect I am unable to achieve is the display area where the AI responds (the last section in the image above, labeled ‘HelperBot’). I am attempting to adapt this feature for general discussions as well, specifically to have a dedicated space that appears beneath a thread when someone initiates a topic, indicating that the AI will respond. Here are my thoughts on this matter:

  • When an AI user is summoned in a thread (e.g., by mentioning (@HelperBot)), the response area for the AI should automatically appear and be updated with the AI’s reply.
  • It would also be ideal if this response area remains visible when the AI is set to reply automatically via an automation plugin. I am currently working on implementing this.

WHY?
Using the AI in these areas encourages users to wait patiently and reassures them that their questions or requests are being addressed.

Despite my attempts to customize the AI plugin to my liking, I have not succeeded yet. I will continue experimenting and am open to suggestions.

This appears to be a discussion about a new feature you want to see in Discourse, so I have moved this topic to Feature. Can you show what you mean by “response area” with a screenshot? The screenshot you provided looks just like how the AI bot response works currently.

It’s great to see that you are extending the AI plugin to fit your needs. Our focus at the moment is not on the area of integrating AI replies into the post stream, so doing it as a customization is the correct path.
