Videos from DropBox, in Discourse under Opera don't work

AI-generated summary

Videos from Dropbox don’t work in Opera on Discourse: brobinson reports issues playing videos from Dropbox in Opera, despite working in other browsers and directly from Dropbox. The problem is not codec-related and seems specific to Discourse. Enzo_Molinari also experiences trouble playing videos on Opera version 60.0.3255.170, but Falco has no issues on Opera 62.0.3331.18 under Linux. The problem may be OS-specific, as Enzo_Molinari confirms it doesn’t work on Windows 10.

Hey All,

I often post little demo videos to my community site by dumping them in dropbox, copying the public link, pasting the link into Discourse and changing the dl=0 to dl=1 on the end of the supplied url. It seems to work in all browsers except for Opera.

For example, see this page.

It’s not a codec problem - the same video file either directly from local file or when shown via the Dropbox page works fine (see here). This seems to be specific to Discourse.

Any ideas on how to make this work?

Also, Feature Request: it’d be great if when pasting a Dropbox link into Discourse it automatically replaced the query string parameter dl=0 to dl=1 so that the viewer automatically gets embedded.
