After latest updates on 01/18/2025, "My Posts" menu option missing in left panel

You can see it should be visible, what am I doing wrong, how to fix, or did an issue get introduced in recent update?

Perhpas remove it first, then add it back?

I removed it, saved, re-added it, saved, refreshed, still does not show up in left panel

I can reproduce the issue on my forum and here at Meta. “My posts” does not show up, while “my drafts” does, when you start a draft.

I guess the issue was introduced when the feature that changes the link to “my drafts” was added.

Edit: Seems the new behavior is intentional.

FEATURE: add drafts dropdown menu by dbattersby ¡ Pull Request #30277 ¡ discourse/discourse ¡ GitHub

The “My Posts” link in desktop sidebar will now be “My Drafts” and only appear when the current user has existing drafts.

But it’s definitely confusing that it’s still shown when you customize the section.

Personally, why not both My Posts and My Drafts? I like the My Posts menu option

You can add a custom “my post” link. Though you need to trick Discourse, because it detects the /my/activity link. But it’s not smart, so adding a slash at the end of the link is sufficient to stop it from doing its magic.

Perfect, works (at least for now), thanks!

Yes, this appears to be related to the changes to the UI allowing more direct access to all drafts.

As regards “my posts” - that’s interesting feedback. And yes, you can always add more links to that first section according to the needs of your community.

Personally, I never clicked on it. My muscle memory still has me selecting my avatar → profile icon → activity. That’s where I also go to access my drafts and invites even though those are in the sidebar too.

I believe that’s you who’s doing magic by tricking the system. :woman_mage:

On my own forum my sidebar has a “My Posts” button.

On meta I have been missing this. It’s not shown in “More” too.

I know I can make a custom link (in a new category), however I can not edit the main menu as a user. However this is a core element of the forum.

But why do I need to make a custom menu, which adds a new category to reach a core element? “My Posts” was perfect just below “Topics”.

Core question is more - why this change?

But right now, you cannot easily add “my posts” back. Without the additional slash, the link is removed. It’s still visible in the “edit section” modal, but not in the sidebar. So there is some logic that removes it afterwards, which is quite confusing.

I would like to see ‘My Posts’ remain as well as ‘My Drafts’, I see no reason to drop My Posts as it is configurable, you can choose to display it or not.

I mentioned this earlier, just reiterating as I would really like to see My Posts remain, if the developer decides to remove it more adeptly to include the trailing slash.

I second this. The old situation was fine, this change doesn’t make sense at all imho.

Indeed though shouldn’t need to trick it. :joy:

I find that My Posts is handy to find a recent topic one has replied to.

Never fun when something disappears. Reminds of when Android removed the Nav Arrow and changed function to use Maps shortcut instead. :joy:. I spent 25 minutes looking before I google it or looked in update notes.

The decision to remove “my posts” as part of this work to support multiple drafts was discussed a fair bit ahead of time and we did foresee that it might surface some of the complaints we are hearing now in this topic.

Many of us are also frequent users of it, but we suspected those of us who use it may be in the minority, and that simplifying the sidebar would be better for most people.

We’ll be looking for stronger signals of either case as we roll out this change further.

Ah, that is confusing. It may be related to the logic we had previously to show my posts conditionally when there were no drafts. Pretty sure that’s not what we want now, so we’ll take a closer look.

It does not have to clutter up the left hand menu, for those that don’t want ‘My Posts’, they can simply remove it from the left hand menu via the Edit Custom Section dialog box.

For me personally, it is indeed an improvement as I never used “My Posts”, and I find the sidebar too crowded. Plus, the sidebar also has a bit of an identity problem, i.e. it mostly contains options for global navigation in content, but also user-related things like “My Posts”, Messages and Chat DMs. So while I see it as a move in the right direction, it does bring up the question about the vision the Discourse team has for the sidebar and the personal menu that is accessed from the avatar.

I think the majority of users don’t explore the interface that much.

The opposite would be:

“for those that want ‘My Posts’, they can simply add it to the left hand menu via the Edit Custom Section dialog box.”

I don’t know what is the best default (having or not the “my posts” link), it’s just that this argument is equal for both sides. It does not really favor one way or the other.
