You can see it should be visible, what am I doing wrong, how to fix, or did an issue get introduced in recent update?
Perhpas remove it first, then add it back?
I removed it, saved, re-added it, saved, refreshed, still does not show up in left panel
I can reproduce the issue on my forum and here at Meta. âMy postsâ does not show up, while âmy draftsâ does, when you start a draft.
I guess the issue was introduced when the feature that changes the link to âmy draftsâ was added.
Edit: Seems the new behavior is intentional.
The âMy Postsâ link in desktop sidebar will now be âMy Draftsâ and only appear when the current user has existing drafts.
But itâs definitely confusing that itâs still shown when you customize the section.
Personally, why not both My Posts and My Drafts? I like the My Posts menu option
You can add a custom âmy postâ link. Though you need to trick Discourse, because it detects the /my/activity
link. But itâs not smart, so adding a slash at the end of the link is sufficient to stop it from doing its magic.
Perfect, works (at least for now), thanks!
Yes, this appears to be related to the changes to the UI allowing more direct access to all drafts.
As regards âmy postsâ - thatâs interesting feedback. And yes, you can always add more links to that first section according to the needs of your community.
Personally, I never clicked on it. My muscle memory still has me selecting my avatar â profile icon â activity. Thatâs where I also go to access my drafts and invites even though those are in the sidebar too.
I believe thatâs you whoâs doing magic by tricking the system.
On my own forum my sidebar has a âMy Postsâ button.
On meta I have been missing this. Itâs not shown in âMoreâ too.
I know I can make a custom link (in a new category), however I can not edit the main menu as a user. However this is a core element of the forum.
But why do I need to make a custom menu, which adds a new category to reach a core element? âMy Postsâ was perfect just below âTopicsâ.
Core question is more - why this change?
But right now, you cannot easily add âmy postsâ back. Without the additional slash, the link is removed. Itâs still visible in the âedit sectionâ modal, but not in the sidebar. So there is some logic that removes it afterwards, which is quite confusing.
I would like to see âMy Postsâ remain as well as âMy Draftsâ, I see no reason to drop My Posts as it is configurable, you can choose to display it or not.
I mentioned this earlier, just reiterating as I would really like to see My Posts remain, if the developer decides to remove it more adeptly to include the trailing slash.
I second this. The old situation was fine, this change doesnât make sense at all imho.
Indeed though shouldnât need to trick it.
I find that My Posts is handy to find a recent topic one has replied to.
Never fun when something disappears. Reminds of when Android removed the Nav Arrow and changed function to use Maps shortcut instead. . I spent 25 minutes looking before I google it or looked in update notes.
The decision to remove âmy postsâ as part of this work to support multiple drafts was discussed a fair bit ahead of time and we did foresee that it might surface some of the complaints we are hearing now in this topic.
Many of us are also frequent users of it, but we suspected those of us who use it may be in the minority, and that simplifying the sidebar would be better for most people.
Weâll be looking for stronger signals of either case as we roll out this change further.
there is some logic that removes it afterwards, which is quite confusing.
Ah, that is confusing. It may be related to the logic we had previously to show my posts conditionally when there were no drafts. Pretty sure thatâs not what we want now, so weâll take a closer look.
It does not have to clutter up the left hand menu, for those that donât want âMy Postsâ, they can simply remove it from the left hand menu via the Edit Custom Section dialog box.
Many of us are also frequent users of it, but we suspected those of us who use it may be in the minority, and that simplifying the sidebar would be better for most people.
For me personally, it is indeed an improvement as I never used âMy Postsâ, and I find the sidebar too crowded. Plus, the sidebar also has a bit of an identity problem, i.e. it mostly contains options for global navigation in content, but also user-related things like âMy Postsâ, Messages and Chat DMs. So while I see it as a move in the right direction, it does bring up the question about the vision the Discourse team has for the sidebar and the personal menu that is accessed from the avatar.
Again, It does not have to clutter up the left hand menu, for those that donât want âMy Postsâ, they can simply remove it from the left hand menu via the Edit Custom Section dialog box.
I think the majority of users donât explore the interface that much.
The opposite would be:
âfor those that want âMy Postsâ, they can simply add it to the left hand menu via the Edit Custom Section dialog box.â
I donât know what is the best default (having or not the âmy postsâ link), itâs just that this argument is equal for both sides. It does not really favor one way or the other.
