Big announcements mailing list?

I went here today to research why discourse didn’t boot a server failure, then I noticed that Discourse 1.0 stable has been released.

While Discourse sends me updates on when a new version is released (0.9.x.x), I didn’t get an e-mail about 1.0 stable.

Is there a “public announcement” mailing list I can opt in to?

Generally it is the twitter account

I wonder if we should make an announcements category here and then people can watch it if they wish.

Nah, Twitter is optimized for exactly this.

Cool, thanks Jeff.
I checked the twitter account and saw that there is more on it than just public announcements … AND I don’t check twitter as much as my e-mail.

You should have been emailed by your instance about 1.0. Any bugs here that would have prevented this, @neil?

I’d love that, personally.

It’s generally standard practice in the FOSS world to announce major releases (and what’s new) in the medium/media where users as well as contributors regularly communicate about the project.

For Discourse, that’d probably be here and the (unofficial?) IRC channel.

I actually do both. We have a blog category to make announcements. I have a IFTTT rule that watches category.rss and composes a tweet

We will probably have a releases category here at some point.
