Broken images in email only after enabling CDN CNAME

Here’s the images broken in emails only since enabling CDN (CNAME subdomain for statics):

Images work perfectly everywhere else. Only some of them are broken in emails. (gmail)

Gmail puts proxy in front of images:

The images work when accessed directly via their CDN URLs:

However, while within gmail, trying to open a broken image in a new tab, results in:

Has anyone seen similar? Wondering if it’s just a caching issue with Google’s proxy server for statics?
