Changing automated Personal Message text

Hi everyone,

Silly question from me, but I haven’t quite worked it out.

I took over from an existing Community Manager and I want to change the automated welcome PM - currently being sent by a brand account (not mine).

How/where do I edit the text included in the automated PM? :folded_hands:

You’ll want to check out the system_messages.welcome_user.text_body_template. You can edit it here:
/admin/customize/site_texts/system_messages.welcome_user.text_body_template?locale=en

(fyi, this is for the english version)

You can customize this and other site texts.

It’s also worth checking if you have the automation plugin installed. If you do, you can see the enabled automations with this url path: /admin/plugins/automation/automation

I was composing a similar message to putty’s – I’ll just add that it’s hard to be sure from your description if this is a welcome message from a renamed Discobot account using a ‘site text’, or from a separate custom automation, which is why there’s a couple of things to check.

These features can also be found via the menu at:

  • Admin → Appearance → Site Texts
  • Admin → Plugins → Automation

Interesting.

Automation plugin is off/not enabled.

When I look at the site texts, they don’t match the DM’s that members are receiving.

Hm… not sure where else it might be generated. Next thing I’d do is take a distinctive section of that message content and search ‘site texts’ for it.

Just to be clear, it’s a forum PM that shows up in the user’s Messages area, not just an email, right?

Depending how many have been amended, the ‘Only show overridden’ checkbox on the site texts page can be quite useful as well to filter down to any customised ones.
