Howdy, I set up a new discourse forum. I’m technical. Self-hosted on Docker. Have a few questions around how to do things, curious what plugins you’re familiar with, if you’re familiar with push notifications for iOS/Android, etc. Looking for someone who can teach me things, help me, etc, who’s very familiar with discourse. Social community for fun, wanting to have a calendar for events. They’re invite only. I have this: Discourse Calendar (and Event) - it does private events, wondering what the best way to do this… we have brunches then we also have camping trips that require weeks of planning. I’m thinking I do a private event for both in a topic, some are invite only, some are open invite with max RSVP.

Wondering about push notifications on iOS/Android. From what I can see, the most stable/reliable method is Discourse Hub. PWA on iOS notifications are hit or miss (short of the “success, you’ve enabled notifications”, I haven’t got any to work).

Other questions about groups, structure, I want to have different groups of people in different states. I could put people in groups - eg. Salt Lake City, UT. Any other way to categorize people? If I did groups, I can have subtopics limited to certain groups I think. Not sure how else to do that or if there’s another way.
I’ve figured out most other things. Looking to get this up in a few days, I’m so close to being done. ![]()
