Hello
We have a community with a Discourse website and a Discord server, has someone made a plugin to sync the Discourse posts in a Discord forum channel?

If it doesn’t yet behave the way you exactly want it to, feel free to PR.
Set up Discord notifications with the discourse-chat-integration plugin does exactly that.
I would want to stick to Discourse since we get to have full control over our servers, powerful moderation tools (e.g. IP-Ban, E-Mail Ban, Account Suspensions, etc.), and we would not need to follow another companies policy. We also do not need to have the fear of having our users data accessed by Discord.
Also, you can always check if new users are spam accounts or not and you can also check DMs here to see if people are acting right unlike Discord.
I was reluctant to comment on topics like this while I was working for Discourse. My opinions likely don’t represent the opinions of the Discourse team or its founders.
Chat and long form discussions are very different. Chat will eventually be superseded by new technology - the metaverse or something similar. Long form written discussions will continue to have a role long after chat is seen as archaic technology. I’d be surprised if Discord forums could match the functionality of Discourse forums any time in the near future. The Discourse team should make sure that doesn’t happen.
Discourse’s current focus on chat is great. What makes it valuable is the way that chat can be integrated with Discourse topics.
What keeps me coming back to Discourse as my go-to community software are that I like the founders, the Discourse team and the culture on Meta, and that it’s open source software. My current obsession is coming up with a way of summarizing long topics like this one, with the aim of allowing people to converse in a normal way while reducing the signal to noise ratio. I’m willing to work on that for free because Discourse is open source. That’s a huge advantage over Discord.
I think Discourse should be more concerned about competing with Patreon and Substack than competing with Discord.
