Discourse on Google compute engine

Has anyone managed to make email work with Discourse in a Google compute instance?

Answering my own question: Discourse running on Google Compute just fine with email and all (port 2525). Just donā€™t bother with the 0.6GB instance, you just run into lots of issues and page loads are really slow. However the 1.7GB instance is a bit on the pricier side, and thereā€™s nothing in betweenā€¦

Iā€™m currently evaluating an option to install Discourse on GCE.

Itā€™s been over a year since the last response here. Has something changed with regards to GCE best tier & pricing?

Nope, probably has gotten easier, just remember minimum reqs are 1GB RAM and 10GB disk and modern CPU, ideally one with high single threaded perf.

Use Vultr or Digital Ocean, these seem to be the go-to  in fact we should have a hosting solution review topic like Whirlpool forum does.

Many exist already. Scroll through the hosting category.
