Why: closer and quicker for your mouse and especially your mobile thumb
Poll driven development is the worst, kind of ambivalent about moving the button
Is there precedent in other modals we have? If there is I am fine to float right it.
Keep in mind, this is a modal almost nobody visits. And it is not that confusing now.
The poll: I merely wanted to be accommodating and give people a chance to easily indicate their dislike for the idea. “Like” makes that easy, while those who don’t like something have to comment. But I can close it, I’ve no issue with that.
The current position of “Dismiss” makes it hard(er) to reach all the way across the screen. I guess some people can quickly react with the other hand, but when you’re holding a mobile device such as tablet you may need to readjust it in your hands, so the both modals (the dimmed and non-dimmed Dismiss) on the same side could be welcomed by all… I hope.
For what it’s worth (and I voted ‘meh’), I think most buttons at the bottom of pages and dialogs would be better placed right-aligned. Not just for the reason you mentioned, but also because it follows most established patterns and meets the expectations of an LTR culture where things end at the bottom of the page, to the right.
But I think if this were done, it should be done consistently across the app. (The topic footer buttons, the Reply/cancel buttons in the composer, etc).
