Email in to a private category

I did a few searches but came up lacking. I have reply by email and email in set up and working.

I have a few categories that are restricted to a specific group and an email address for emailing into those categories. If a user (not a member of the group) sends an email to the private category that they don’t have access to, what happens? Is the email ignored? Does it go through and I’ll need to remove them?

The email will be logged as being “rejected” in the admin > email > rejected list and the user will receive an email saying their previous email generated an error.
