Feature request: Reorder categories per group

Sometimes different categories are valuable for different groups.
Context adds different priorities.

It seems interesting to be able to reorder categories for groups.
So when they go to categories page or filter by category - they see what is important for them immediately instead of scroll/search.

So a customizable category list page for each group? Sounds very interesting!

Where would you see this fitting into our current UI?

Thanks @osioke
Yes - that’s what I mean (+ maybe to reflect the custom order in category list in navigation)

Use case

Many communities use Categories as a main page.
For example - https://discourse.mozilla.org/

For groups with particular language or scope of interests it’s nice to see their main categories on top.

Where would you see this fitting into our current UI?
I think group settings is a natural place for that.
/g/<group_name>/manage/categories

We have “Category default notifications” there.
I propose to add “Category default order”

For now I use a dirty “way around” - mute all categories for the group except their main one.
But this leads to huge limitations in terms of notifications.
Here how it looks:

General main page order:

Same main page with different order for language groups
(native language categories on top):

@osioke And in my personal opinion category group settings is a better fit for this than custom theme component - just under the fingers for group moderators/admins.

Thank you for sharing this, detailed feature requests like this helps when reviewing them.

Here is Theme Component that might in part do what you’re looking for.

This component assigns categories to the group of categories to collapse them.

What I mean is to give group of users ability to set categories order for that group of users only.

F.e. language_x group to have categories in their language on top.
Or for tech support groups - have tech support categories on top.
For usability and easy navigation.
