Feature request: share to discourse (via iOS)

Tried to do a quick search online and it doesn’t seem like iOS supports this yet. I’d love to have it and might have to use the suggestion here:

If you just want something for yourself, you can set that up with a Shortcut and the “Get contents of url” action. You can then configure the shortcut to be available in the Share page so you could then easily share links/whatever to your self hosted

EDIT: found this post, but doesn’t seem to be working for me:

Any of you know whether Web Share Target might come to iOS and/or Discourse soon?

Tried to find anything on Apple’s end to indicate progress on this… and it looks like their most recent position was that they have concerns and want some more guidance from the web apps working group… https://github.com/WebKit/standards-positions/issues/11#issuecomment-1311224150… that working group does have an Apple employee involved, but I can’t find any sort of related update related to the Web Share Target API… so it seems unlikely to come anytime soon (but who knows, sometimes Apple surprises us)

Hmm, yea, doesn’t seem very near-term promising.

I think I may have asked this somewhere before, but how possible would it be to tweak Discourse Hub to allow this?

Is the expectation that I would be browsing the web, tap share, and then be able to pass that URL to Discourse Hub so I can post it to one of the forums I have within?

I think @pmusaraj would have a much better idea, but it seems technically possible? I can share URLs like this to other apps… I think we’d need to add a share extension… ask which site to share it with once you’re in the Hub, and then maybe pass the URL as content to our /new-topic URL? (Whether or not there’s a demand for adding it is another story, but that’s what the feature request is for )

Kind of related, but only a little… I just realized now that we already have a hub entry in the share sheet under “More”, if you tap this while on a Discourse site it will add it to the Hub.

Yes, we do indeed have a Share extension in DiscourseHub, it might not be too much work to add support for sharing into a community. Right now it works as @awesomerobot described, it will add a site to the Hub, if it is a Discourse community.

Yup! Ideally could share a URL or image or text or whatever. The iOS shortcut I saw elsewhere was nice in that it could allow you to choose post body and post category, post title might be nice as well, or simply just open up the composer in the target community using the prefilled URL new topic option.
