How do I make topics in subcategories display in their own sub-forums?

Eg as in https://hackers.guitarhacks.com/, or the left-hand bar of the discourse forums

I don’t know how to do it for, say, http://rapamycin.news/latest

That’s done with the desktop category page style setting in admin.

Change it to “Categories and Latest Topics” and you’ll get this.
