How do I turn off AdSense ads? I’ve checked around the Admin panel and under Settings for AdSense but can’t find how to shut them off.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Remove your adsense publisher code from the settings. It’s the first setting in the AdSense tab of settings.

I removed the publisher code, and even removed the ad plugin from app.yml and rebuilt the site, yet the site is still serving the adsense javascript from domain pagead2.googlesyndication.com, which is quite heavy. Is that normal?

No it isn’t normal. Clearing your “adsense publisher code” in your site settings will stop the ads from being rendered. Look in your themes and customizations where any adsense js was manually added to your site.
