I am aware that Discourse still does not support threaded commenting under answers/replies but is it possible to load a StackExchange thread/forum into a live discourse forum? Has anyone ever done this or has a live example?

As long as the data is available, it is possible to import into in Discourse.
You can work on it yourself by creating an import script similar to the existing ones or post a data example and your budget for it into the #marketplace.
