It is hacky. I understand that I will have to fix this code each time you’ll change some HTML around. But I’ll have to deal with it sinse there’s few things that I don’t like about Discourse now, and there’s no other way to fix them. I will probably have to use JS to fix all of this:
I’d like to find a way to default the view for all users to display “none” rather than “all” subcategories, when in a category. “all” would be an option they could select. Is there any way to achieve this?
Generally, my community is finding “none” as an option to select unintuitive.

I have a lot of categories on my forum , some of them are active, some are dead. I agree with @codinghorror that there’s shouldn’t be too many categories, specially when there’s dead categories mixed with alive together - it creates a meeting on graveyard atmosphere, noone wants to go there. But I don’t want to delete old categories, it’s a history of my community. My forum is about games, so people like to go back time to time, read old posts, see screenshots with old victories and nostalgy. So…
