I think what you’re seeing is related to this.
The fallback --calculated-height only kicks in if you’re on a browser that doesn’t support the aspect-ratio CSS property. All the browsers officially supported by Discourse support that property
CSS property: aspect-ratio | Can I use... Support tables for HTML5, CSS3, etc
