In its current implementation I feel the Follow feed is very limited, as it only shows all the replies from the users you have followed. What I would propose is being able to see a feed of topics the followed users have created along with using thumbnails from the Topic List Thumbnails TC.
It would be nice if the feed were more integrated into the core interface, but an easier solution, for now, would be adding a tab for a topic feed:
