Incremental backups

Is there a plugin or another way to do incremental backups? I have one forum with multi-gigabyte chat history. The forum is much quieter now and so growth is lower.

For backup, it would be great to do a point-in-time backup and then after that do only incremental backups of post/topic databases so that it is only necessary to back up changes since, say, 2024 and then reduce the processing and transfer time.

For restore, you’d first restore the original first stage backup and then layer on to the incremental one.

There’s no way to do that with Discourse.

There are ways that you can get Postgres to things like that, but I suspect that they will be much more trouble for you than they are worth. And, thinking again, I am not really sure that it’s possible at all.

Thanks. I’ll have a look to see what options there are. It feels a little wasteful to download gigabytes of data when only 30 megabytes of new data are generated every month or so.
