We’ve been upgrading the chat assistant available to admins on our hosting and today, along with those upgrades, it gets a new name: the Discourse Admin Assistant.
The old Discourse Helper Bot name no longer fits as it used to answer questions by searching our documentation. Now it can take real action on your site, right from chat:
- Answer questions about Discourse: searching Meta for up-to-date documentation
- Change site settings: ask it to make a change and it presents an approve/cancel button before anything is changed
- Help with moderation: silence or suspend users, lock or unlock topics, inspect the review queue
- Know your plan: it’s aware of your hosting tier and can answer questions about what’s available to you and where to manage billing
Who gets it?
-
The Admin Assistant is available on all hosted Discourse instances including Free, Pro, Business and Enterprise from Discourse pricing | Discourse - Civilized Discussion out of the box.
-
For self-hosted sites, you need to configure an LLM and then enable the agent for users (via chat or via bot PMs).
Up to 10 admins per site are onboarded automatically when granted admin status with a greeting in the chat sidebar. If you’re an admin on a hosted site, look for it under Messages in the chat sidebar.
Give it a try and let us know how it goes, or what you’d like to see it do next ![]()
