Is is possible to add a custom "New Topic" Button/CTA?

We’re interested in inserting a “New Topic” CTA in the top menu (we’re using the Custom Header Links plug-in) and wondered if there is any guidance or information on this from other users.

Ideally, we’ve have category context but that’s not a requirement.

Thanks in advance for any advice, snippets, examples.
