The discussion Is there a way to chat with Discobot? began with trusktr inquiring about the possibility of chatting with Discobot to ask questions about Discourse features and settings. tobiaseigen suggested using ask.discourse.com for this purpose. Canapin wondered why ask.discourse.com uses the .com domain instead of .org, which led to a discussion about adding a redirect. sam explained that the .com domain is used because it relies on paid LLMs and suggested adding a redirect. Following this, tobiaseigen and Lilly worked together to implement the redirect from ask.discourse.org to ask.discourse.com.
It’s probably a silly question, but I wonder why ask uses the .com domain extension, when the main site and the forum both use .org
I’ve more than once typed “ask.discourse.org” by mistake…
It is a commercial thing, I think the URL is right, it leans on for pay LLMs to actually power it.
That said, I think it is fair that we should add a redirect @tobiaseigen can you add a TODO to track this, infra or maybe even it support can take care of this.
