Hello,

I am new to Discourse but already installed it on an OVH VPS Ubuntu 22. It’s OK.

I want to transfert a forum from a server1 to server2 with a différent URL. I see how to backup the forum1 and restore it in forum2.

I want administrators can test the new forum and for this purpose maintain it for visitors for a couple of days.
I see i can Enable read only but in this case visitors can see the new forum and the tests…

I’d like to provide access for admin and not to allow visitors to visit the site. Is there a way ?

PS: If ReadOnly is enabled is it still possible to login ?

I believe that you can login to a site in read only as an admin using /u/admin-login

I believe users can still login as usual but cannot post or create content nor make any changes to preferences, etc. The forum is read-only for all users.

Thank you for your replies.

For info, after some tests in “Read only” mode I noticed :

  • “Logout is disabled while the site is in read only mode”
  • when I go to/ u/admin-login in an other browser the page ask me form my email but i get this message : “The site is in read only mode. Interactions are disabled.”

So I’m a bit embarrassed…
