Meta Topics for Forum's Usage and Features

New users who who will be visiting/using discourse based forum’s will be unfamiliar to forum’s features and functionality.
Can we have a set of topics pre-built into “meta” group available as a part of installation?

Example:

“meta” group can have few topics like:

http://discuss.howtogeek.com/t/how-to-use-the-clear-pin-feature-to-remove-a-pinned-topic/2247

http://discuss.howtogeek.com/t/does-uploading-images-via-drag-n-drop-or-copy-n-paste-work-for-you/1292

http://discuss.howtogeek.com/t/regular-user-trust-level-learn-all-about-it/1544

http://discuss.howtogeek.com/t/welcome-to-the-htg-discussion-forum-read-first/10000

Except the HTG specific content the other part is applicable to all discourse based forums.

Maybe, but I want to keep that stuff to an absolute minimum. Users won’t read anything you put in front of them anyway. And the ones that do, are smart enough not to need a lot of what you would tell them anyway.

However – the “welcome to forum” is something we DO need to seed. @sam I know you asked me to put in the markdown in the repo but I need you to please copy the text and make it happen.

Edit: this is now properly seeded on all new Docker installs.

That does not mean we should not have it. I think it’s a good practice to have a decent documentation irrespective of users and their behavior.

Anyways as not many people commented on the topic or liked it, I believe I am alone on this.
So I will just develop it myself by reusing the existing content from various forums and updating it for my use.

Well, the private welcome message sent to all new users covers the kinds of essential usage tips you are talking about. Sign up at try.discourse.org to see it, or if you run a forum, edit it in admin, content, new user tips to taste.

Can you point me to the location where I can edit the new user tips? I’m struggling to find it via your directions

Admin, Customize and take it from there.

Yup, I’ve made it that far, but I can’t find the actual definition of the new user tips anywhere (many references to them). I’m sure I’m being dense though, so thanks for letting me bother you.

Search for “tips” and you’ll find it. Or any unique word in the content will also work.
