discussion topic: Multiple templates per category

communitygal inquires about creating multiple templates for a category, allowing users to choose the desired template before posting. jomaxro questions how multiple templates would work, and communitygal clarifies that users would be able to select a template from a list.

jomaxro notes that this feature is not currently available and invites communitygal to share mockups of the proposed functionality. pfaffman suggests incorporating the canned replies interface.

communitygal shares an image of the proposed template option and explains that the feature would be specific to the wiki category. jomaxro compares the proposal to staff-defined canned replies.

communitygal further explains the intended use of predefined templates for structuring common types of wiki posts, such as troubleshooting and best practices.

I see we can create a template in a category. Just wondering if it’s possible to create a few different templates for a category?

thanks,
Emma

Sorry, I’m confused. Templates are inserted into the composer automatically when the category is selected. How would multiple templates work? Would one be picked at random?

The user would have the chance to choose which template they would like to use before they begin posting.

Interesante idea. Por el momento no es posible, por lo que esto sería una solicitud de funcionalidad Contribute > Feature. Me interesaría ver algunos mockups de cómo te imaginas que funcionaría.

Perhaps the canned replies interface could be roled in?

Yeah, I’m a former lithium user and I used to build templates.
I would like to present users with a list of templates when they go to start a wiki post.

I see this functioning at the per category level and only for the wiki category. I plan to keep the rest of my community discussion-based.

This sure sounds a lot like staff defined canned replies users can select.

I would like to predefine the structure of wiki posts for common issues, troubleshooting, QA, best practices. Those types of things.
