Multisite enable on directory level instead of subdomain

I need to enable multisite on directory level instead of subdomain

www.example.com/multisite1
www.example.com/multisite2

I don’t believe that’s possible. It’ll be much easier to go with subdomains.

What’s appealing about the subfolder solution? Not dealing with dns and certificates?
