Parsing (Oneboxing) IMDB links

(Tomo Vukasović) #1

IMDB should be on the list to automatically parse like wikipedia etc.

(Sam Saffron) #2

Is that permitted? do they have oembed?

IIRC we used to scrape IMDB until it was pointed out that it was a violation of their TOS so it was removed.

(Jeff Atwood) #5

It says

A lot of providers are available via http://embed.ly. However, you’ll have to register to get an api-key. Some of the listed providers have already been added to this plugin, yet not all.

For that one (IMDB) specifically.

Thanks. I guess we have to wait. You should change color of your hair on Halloween.

IMDB should be working at all. URL content fetching seems to work:

I’m still waiting for this onboxing feature. I’m a big movie / tv shows fan and still looking for an onboxing method with rating. Any ideas so far?

(Tomo Vukasović) #8

Yes, but it does not pick up the photo.

(Markus) #9

Yes?

Even the movie title with rating would be fine. But it doesn’t work at all, e.g.:

#10

Sure works:

You just have to add imdb.com to the onebox domains whitelist site setting.

The rating doesn’t show up as they don’t send that with the schema/embed.

(Jeff Atwood) #11

Hmm if this is working now we should add imdb to the default whitelist @techapj.

(Robin Ward) #12

Yeah it looks like they added open graph support!

(Arpit Jalan) #13

Okay, done
