Preventing notifications when moving topics to announcements category

It’s very confusing to receive a notification for a new announcement that is actually about changes that happened two years ago.

(It was more obvious when you moved the welcome topic)

You are right! Sorry about that. I incorrectly posted this in the Feature category back then and wanted to make it right. Unfortunately that notified everyone about some old news!

I came across this today when helping a customer with the legal admin settings. The guidance in this announcement regarding that is still accurate.

I just expected something new because there was a new announcement. Would I still be notified if you enabled Disable category edit notifications before changing the category? I think that was used when the documentation structure was changed last year.

I don’t have personal experience with that but can try it next time!

Also I could have used the bulk action to change the category, which has a nifty “perform this action silently” option. Presumably that would prevent the notification from firing?
