Out of curiosity I went and looked at the self install instructions today, noted Ubuntu LTS was the recommendation, and see I am currently on 20.04.06 LTS and that the recently released LTS is 26.04.
I’m in no hurry to make the jump due to how new the latest LTS is. This is really a planning ahead for maybe later this summer.
My memory fails me from 2023. I am pretty confident that my last Ubuntu update, I took a snapshot from lightsail, spun up a new instance on the new OS, and restored the snapshot and was off and running, easy enough.
Anyone done either an in place OS update on a lightsail recently, or something similar to the approach I described above?
i just did a (standard docker install) forum migration yesterday from one ubuntu 24.04 LTS server to another located on the other side of the planet, and using exactly the steps Falco suggested. i also switched transactional email services at the same time. i think uploading the backup to the new site was what took the longest. the migration itself was relatively easy - just restore to the new forum. i set the DNS TTL to 5 minutes on my name server, and as soon as the domain was verified i did the switch over to the new host server i had already setup.
