:bookmark: This guide explains how to enable and configure Gists, which is part of the Summarize feature of the Discourse AI plugin.

Gists are short AI summaries to help you get a quick overview from topic lists.

Features

  • Auto backfills short summaries of topics
  • Toggleable between compact and expanded (with AI summary) topic views
  • Available for all topic views, i.e - hot, latest, top etc

Enabling Summarize

Prerequisites

You must configure at least one Large Language Model (LLM) from a provider.

To get started you can configure them through the Discourse AI - Large Language Model (LLM) settings page.

Configuration

  1. Go to Admin → Plugins → AI → Settings tab and make sure Discourse AI enabled, AI summarization enabled, and AI summary gists enabled are checked

  2. Switch to the Personas tab and edit the Summarizer (short form) persona to use your LLM as the Default language model, and ensure the persona is enabled.

  3. (optional) Increase ai_summary_backfill_maximum_topics_per_hour to backfill gists for older topics, and control how far back to backfill via ai_summary_backfill_topic_max_age_days.
