AI-generated summary

ABillionSuns suggests that the AV Club could benefit from using Discourse as a conversation platform, though questions its ability to handle the site’s heavy traffic. mpalmer shares a video related to the discussion. codinghorror welcomes suggestions of Discourse to the AV Club but clarifies that on-page comments are not the primary focus of Discourse, emphasizing driving engagement to a ‘community clubhouse’ instead.

Outcome of the experiment here

I still think the AV Club would be a good get for Discourse as a conversation platform, but I wonder the extent to which it can handle the brutal load the site would put on it. In any case it might be interesting to scan that thread and look at pain points the users found when trying to use spot.im.

Well, if people want to suggest Discourse to them, I’m all for it.

Just bear in mind on-page comments is not really the goal of Discourse – we only do read-only summaries on the page and drive people next door to the community clubhouse if they want to participate..
