Topic timer (without topic closure)

Suggestion: Allow staff to set a topic timer, which counts down to a chosen date/time - BUT, doesn’t close the topic once the countdown is completed.

Reason: Sometimes I want to set a date for submissions, but don’t want to end the discussion once that time has passed. Once the timer is completed, it could say something like "Topic timer completed on dd mm yyyy at hh:mm a/pm. Once the timer is removed from the topic, that message could disappear.

I don’t understand the purpose of this?

Here’s an example:

  1. I create a new topic, asking people to respond to a question by a certain date.
  2. To help with time differences between countries, I add a topic timer so forum members can see the countdown.
  3. When the topic timer has counted down, it closes the topic.
  4. I don’t really want the topic to be closed, so I manually re-open the topic so conversation can continue.

My request is to allow a topic timer, which counts down, but without topic closure… or to let me know if this is already possible?

We have an “auto-bump” timer (which I just applied to this topic)

You could even customize the message it shows by going to/admin/customize/site_texts
