Trust Level Progress Display on Profile Page

It would be helpful to have a “Trust Level Progress” section added to each user’s profile page, similar to what’s shown in the Trust Level Requirements view (for admins). This section could display a breakdown of the user’s current progress toward the next trust level (like Topics Replied To, Posts Read, Likes Given, etc.), along with any remaining requirements.

This feature would enhance user engagement by promoting awareness of their trust level journey, helping them stay motivated to contribute and interact. A visible progress indicator could serve as a gentle nudge for users aiming to reach higher trust levels.

Hi Hayden

It could be helpful in some cases and it depends on the type of community you have. It may make contributing more fun but by the same token, I would be inclined to say that it wouldn’t always “enhance user engagement” in the best way as users may stop posting ‘helpful’ posts in order to get to the next trust level.

There was some discussion about this back in January of this year

Hi Ondre,

Thanks for that feedback. Yes, I can see that negative effect on some forums. For my forum, a large chuck of the audience are in their 40s and 50s plus. I wouldn’t mind having that as an available feature to toggle ‘On’.

I agree it should not be a default feature, as it wouldn’t work for all topics/niches and audiences. However, it would be useful on others.

Only the members who take time to even populate and use their profiles (not everyone) would be the ones who even notice this feature.

I understand totally why this could be wanted. But… I dislike very much idea where quantity is over quality. Sure, somewhere such light semi-moderation benefits can be useful but I doubt. And another sure — there can be another TL-dependent perks as AI-rights etc and that’s why I have a bit mixed feelings about that.

But in principle, I am against, but in practice… if such a feature can be implemented, its display is optional and it would be beneficial to some forums, so the idea is worth supporting. On my own forum, however, this would be utterly useless, as the trust level is capped at TL2.

Many of Discourse’s features on the admin settings page are best ‘on’ or ‘off’ depending on the forum, yes.

So, maybe this might be better as a plugin rather than a core feature that can be enabled or disabled. I guess something for the devs to decide. I think it’s a feature that worth using on some forums. I, personally, love data like this. I would never use it in order to spam a forum or try to boost my numbers. But it’s “satisfying” to look at and adds to the sense/feeling of members’ contributions to the community. It can include the option to enable it for Trust Level X+ members. In my case, I would allow members who are Trust Level 2+ to view it.

Similar to Category Badge Styles no longer being part of core Discourse. But an option for those forums who would like to make use of it.

This I agree totally (even I know my opinion doesn’t matter or make things happen :joy:)

I’m sure all our opinions matter. It probably takes time and may not be executed in the full form we envision, but I’m pretty sure the Feature - Discourse Meta is something the dev team considers.
