Two issues I can't figure out why they are ocurring - nested replies & newly created uncategorized category

1. All of a sudden SOME (but not all) of the topics with comments/replies are no longer chronological but instead show the replies indented under the person they reply to instead of chronological with the ability to click on the user name to go see the original comment being replied to. I want it to go back to the non-indented process. The indented process is making my members unhappy - as they can’t tell what the newest comments are because they are scattered all throughout under various replies. (kind of like how reddit indents replies). How do we get this back to the original chronological order.
2. All of a sudden we are having some topics/posts come through uncategorized. And being placed in an uncategorized category. Problem is I don;t have an uncategorized category in my forum and my original settings were that people could not post without choosing a category and I had a default of “Community Connection” as the category for people who didn’t choose one. It would pop up automatically for them. Now this has changed. I don;t know why and I’m struggling finding how to change it back to what we had. I tried searching for “uncategorized” in all site settings - could not find anything that sounded like it would put things back to what we want.

Help? would someone please guide me with where to find these things or how to fix them back to what we want.

We have some kind of new “sort” option, none of which provides the original chronological view either. Members are confused and if they get a notification about a new reply - and they click on it - it doesn’t take them to it.

and viewing in threads is also new - and may be the cause of what is going on. How does that get turned off?

OK, I think I found the problem with the nested replies and have made sure that is turned off. Still have not found the new uncategorized problem.

The Uncategorized category appears because of this change:

You can go to the category settings > Settings tab > Delete category to remove it.

Thank you; however there is no option to delete that category.

I also tried to follow the instructions here about handling the deletion of the “special category” - but I cannot find the option for allow uncategorized topics

in all site settings. When I type all three words in the search or even just the first two - there are no results.

When I type just the word allow - I see lots of results - but none of them are the “allow uncategorized topics” in order for me to ensure it is not checked.

You’ll need to open the Advanced settings. Toggle to switch and you should see the Settings tab.
