Update from v2.5.0 to v2.7.9

I want to update discourse from v2.5.0 to v2.7.9 but admin console says I am up to date. SSHing into the deployment and running git pull && ./launcher rebuild app also keeps the version at 2.5.0. How do I update my version?

What version OS are you running ? That might also need an upgrade.

P.s backup before you do this upgrade.

You probably have the version pinned in your app.yml file.

No version isn’t pinned in app.yml

I am using ubuntu 18.04.1. How do I go and do the backup?

You can backup and download it from the admin interface or from your control panel where you host it

I don’t know why the rebuild would leave you at that version. What I would recommend is to spin up a new server, install discourse there, make a backup, and upload and restore it to the new server.

Maybe your DNS is wonky and you are connecting to one server with ssh and another with your web browser? Does the site go down if you ./launcher stop app?
