I am trying to upload a backup (which I’ve also used before without problems) but I now I get 502 bad gateway.
Is my backup not usable any more ?
It’s not a problem with your backup.
Does your forum work at all?
If you can, I’d recommend uploading it via scp or rsync. It goes in /var/discourse/shared/standalone/backups/default
There is a topic about how to restore from the command line as well.

Do backups expire somehow? I had two downloaded and saved on my machine, these were the ones that had this issue. Then I found more recent one I had and it worked like normal 
HOw did you install Discourse? Do you have a reverse proxy in front of it perchance?
Nope! The official installation
